Just a Stop Along the Way

Sometimes, I️ just want to shout these words.

I am not a band aid
to cover the wounds
of who you’ve loved
Comforting and distracting
Building you up
To move on or perhaps back.
That role is yours
To find within yourself.
My worth and wants
Do not lie as a catalyst
In order to find your healing
finding comfort in my affections
Temporarily.
My heart isn’t yours
To find refuge in
From the sins of another
Providing a cocoon
Or even salvation.
Wings sprout
Giving thanks for my kindness
Watching you fly.
And they always seem to wonder
Why I don’t bare the parts of me
Tender, warm and red
Meant for something more sacred
Than merely a stop along the way.
